Fair play to Beckham, he burst onto the scene when I first started watching football, so it seems strange now his career is winding down, as he has always been at the top and I have always associated football with him.
I am not a Man Utd fan, but I certainly have been through a few roller coaster moments with him. '98 and that red card, the last minute wonder free kick against the Greeks in '01 and his attempt at launching the first football from a penalty spot into outer space in '04 against Portugal.
He is often portrayed in the media as not the sharpest, however, the Beckham brand has been marketed superbly, I know his advisers have helped. He is a world class footballer but there are many other superb footballers out there, who will only ever be able to dream about the amount Beckham earns, he deserves credit for this, there are not too many other 31 year olds out there, who could sign a hundred million pound contract before you get into sponsorship.
Moreover, it is scene as his career winding down, maybe that is true, but it is a fresh challenge for Beckham, he can become idolised USA, one of the few countries in the world that he is not currently recognised. a move to any club from Real Madrid would seem a step down, this is daring though and a challenge, he does have the potential to shape a future in USA.
To make it political though, what do Blair and Beckham have in common then?
Both have been at the top of their profession for over half my life.
Both seem to have a love affection for the USA.
Yet Americans seem not to care for either of them.
Both have been on a disastrous downturn since last summer.
Both are now desperately perhaps looking for a lasting legacy, by trying to shape the future in the last segment of their careers.
One has finally decided to set a date to go, how long before the other follows suit?

I was wondering how you were going to make that political jimmy but i like it!
I'm liking your link to Blair there, good work. You failed to mention however that not only are there all the similarities you stated already about Blair and Becks, but also that they are both being pushed from grace by the staff behind them!
