From Galicticos to Galaxy

Fair play to Beckham, he burst onto the scene when I first started watching football, so it seems strange now his career is winding down, as he has always been at the top and I have always associated football with him.

I am not a Man Utd fan, but I certainly have been through a few roller coaster moments with him. '98 and that red card, the last minute wonder free kick against the Greeks in '01 and his attempt at launching the first football from a penalty spot into outer space in '04 against Portugal.

He is often portrayed in the media as not the sharpest, however, the Beckham brand has been marketed superbly, I know his advisers have helped. He is a world class footballer but there are many other superb footballers out there, who will only ever be able to dream about the amount Beckham earns, he deserves credit for this, there are not too many other 31 year olds out there, who could sign a hundred million pound contract before you get into sponsorship.

Moreover, it is scene as his career winding down, maybe that is true, but it is a fresh challenge for Beckham, he can become idolised USA, one of the few countries in the world that he is not currently recognised. a move to any club from Real Madrid would seem a step down, this is daring though and a challenge, he does have the potential to shape a future in USA.

To make it political though, what do Blair and Beckham have in common then?

Both have been at the top of their profession for over half my life.
Both seem to have a love affection for the USA.
Yet Americans seem not to care for either of them.
Both have been on a disastrous downturn since last summer.
Both are now desperately perhaps looking for a lasting legacy, by trying to shape the future in the last segment of their careers.

One has finally decided to set a date to go, how long before the other follows suit?

Can the Home Office get anything else wrong?

Ok, so the Home Office has forgotten to put 500 foreigner criminals on lists in this country and so on. This has dominated the news for the last few days with David Cameron choosing to devote all his PMQs time to it.

However, I feel there is a greater problem in the Home Office, that has been lately the numbers of people escaping (walk out) from Sudbury open prison, let's look at statistics, 660 prisoners have escaped from Sudbury prison since 1997. This has increased especially during the last few years. Over Christmas it became apparent that two murderers have been missing now for over 65 days, and the police refused to publish their pictures and names, saying that it may well infringe their human rights! They have since said they have been mis-quoted! However, the delay in publishing them was absolutely ridiculous when the government are considering naming and shaming people for not keeping up with payments to the Child Support Agency.

Two more prisoners escaped yesterday, one in the morning, one in the afternoon, it seems to be a bit of a joke, maybe it is a secret government tactic to free up prison space!

Last year one prisoner escaped, and it took a week for anyone to notice!!!

It leaves me with just one question: Will the last prisoner out of Sudbury please consider global warming and switch off the lights?

Thank you.

Biased BBC

It was found last year that the BBC executives had held a secret meeting at which they agreed that they were biased to the left. The BBC refute the claims of course, however, Nick Assinder today in his New Year predictions did little to dispel this theory.

He was giving his forecast for the political events of 2007, and when commenting about the Cash for Peerages scandal he said that if,

'But if there are any charges brought against any Labour individuals, it will send shockwaves through the government and play into suggestions the government is as sleazy as the previous John Major administration was said to have been.' view article on http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/6178815.stm

I may well not remember the John Major government that clearly (not even being in double figures by that stage), but from my history lessons, it was never stated that any of the 'individuals' had charges brought against them, and John Major himself was never questioned by the police. I think if any of Tony's Cronies is charged then it surely demonstrates that this administration is an awful lot more sleazy than Major's ever was, this is not to mention dodgy house loans, Tessa Jowell's estranged husband and let's not even start on John Prescott.

It cannot come as a surprise when politicians act in this way that voter turn out has decreased. Furthermore they should act as role models. We should expect our politician's to be law-makers not law-breakers.
